12 Wedding Planning Tips

                                            12 Wedding Planning tips

Planning a wedding can be very stressful.
Stick to these rules and you’ll do fine!

1) Set a date and a budget and stick to it. There is a perfect wedding vendor for every price range.

2) Ask for referrals from vendors you’ve booked, friends or family.
Check with the BBB about a vendor’s history. If names are given to
you by a wedding vendor, ask them how they got on that list. Some
paid hundreds or thousands of dollars to be on that list!

3) Coordinating a friend, their own or their daughter’s wedding doesn’t
make someone a professional wedding coordinator. Make sure you
hire a professional at some point during the wedding planning process
to make sure that you are on track, spending your money wisely and
tying up all the loose ends properly. A wedding coordinator will save
you hours in chat rooms, on the phone with vendors and attending
unnecessary appointments and let you free your time to do other
things.

4) Set a timeline of tasks that you need to take care of. For example,
you should book your reception hall about 12 months out; your
photographer 9 to 12 months out; etc.

5) The number on the guest list will increase or decrease your budget.
A good rule of thumb is that if you won’t be friends with them five
years from now, don’t invite them! However, you do want to invite your
boss, appropriate colleagues, close friends and family. There will be
family that your parents will request you invite and you’ll need to
accommodate those requests.

6) Invitations should go out six weeks before the wedding. DO NOT
PUT YOUR REGISTRY INFORMATION IN YOUR INVITATION. This is
an etiquette no-no. Instead, direct your guests to view your wedding website
for more information.

7) Take a break from the planning. Have a quality date night with your
fiancé weekly where you don’t talk about the wedding at all.

8) The rehearsal dinner should only be the people participating in the
actual ceremony. However, you will have guests arriving a day early
for your wedding and you can feel free to invite them to the rehearsal
dinner if you feel inclined to.

9) Have an emergency kit the day of the wedding. A basic kit should
have a needle and thread, stain remover, glue, nail polish, nylons,
deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair pins, hairspray, double
sided tape, comb and safety pins at minimum. A wedding planner will
have a more complete kit to prepare you for anything that will go
wrong. (And something will!)

10) Eat! Eat! Eat! on your wedding day.

11) Relax and enjoy the process and the event. A wedding is not
supposed to be stressful, it’s a celebration of the love you and your
fiancé share. This is where a wedding coordinator can come in
handy. You only get married once — we do this for a living! We know
how to keep you calm, collected, under control and enjoying the
process.

12) IF YOU BOOK A BAND: Get them to add a clause to their
contract which states that they will not drink alcohol at your event.
This can be handwritten and initialed by both parties.

No More Sleepless Nights

Ever had a sleepless night, worrying about what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, some of what you’ve imagined can happen. A bride’s most common “nightmare” is usually dress-related…it’s damaged or defective, or the bridal salon goes out of business. Severe weather can wash out your big day. These are just some of the risks for one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make (the average U.S. wedding is $27,000)

Click on  Wedding Disaster Solutions and you’ll see how The Wedding Protector Plan can help ensure your day goes right.

WEVA – Wedding and Event Videography Association Convention 2008

Special Moments was asked to attend the W.E.V.A. Convention in Orlando yesterday.  We spent the beginning of the day at the Association of Bridal Consultants (A.B.C.) booth explaining how it can be beneficial to a vendor to be a member of this association.  Later in the night we were on the panel of Professional Bridal Consultants, judging for “Battle of the Videographer”.  This is when the different regions of the association get together and compete on the commercial that will be shown to brides and grooms, informing them about hiring a professional in the W.E.V.A. program.

Safety Harbor Resort & Spa Wedding Ceremony & Reception

Bonnie and Adam were married on July 11th, 2008 at Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.

This was absolutely a great wedding. The color choices were gorgeous, watermelon and brown. The wedding was at one of our favorite places to work at. (Safety Harbor Resort and Spa) The ceremony was held out on the pool deck, with amazing flowers by Flowers by Jenny. After the ceremony, the guests tossed freeze dried rose petals from rose petal cones hung on the back of every chair. Their cake was provided by Chantilly Cakes, which is always amazing. They had by far, the most amazing DJ I have ever met in my entire life, Chuck Weirich from Classified Events. He is not only a DJ but he is a musician, he plays the trumpet for his brides & grooms. This wedding was something we will never forget. The bride loved her hair and make-up which was provided by Michele Renee. The memories were captured by Brian C. Idocks Photographics, who is also “2007 Photography of the Year.” We are looking forward to seeing the great wedding video provided by En Fuego Video.

Luck of the Draw – 08/08/08 Wedding

Jen and Lou wanted a lucky day for their gambling themed wedding and reception. Fortunately for Jen and Lou, they asked the right planning company to be part of their day. Jen wanted to suprise her fiance with taking his love for gambling and making it a totally “Out of the Box ” Event. Special Moments got involved from the beginning of the planning process on this one. We were totally out to the test with a total budget for this event of $ 5,000. Yes, you read that right $ 5,000 !!!!

We started with finding a location that had gambling available on sight. Yes, the Hard Rock was out. Lou had been there with a previous girl before. Jen said No!!! We finally after numerous phone calls, many site inspections, meeting with several different people at the location,  ( Every Department has a “in charge ” person.) chose Derby Lane on Gandy Blvd in St. Petersburg. Do you know how much persuasion, smiling, and selling it as a “great ” opportunity to get them to say Yes and then also have it closed to the public for the wedding Ceremony it took? After all, they had never had a wedding ceremony there before.

Jen and Lou’s Wedding Ceremony was to take place in a 30 minute window before they locked down the track and got ready to open to the public for the “Special Events ” they had planned for that night also. The wedding was to take place in the center of the track on a small island with just Jen , Lou and the minister. The guests would gather around the lake and watch the ceremony. Tammy came up with the idea after for the ceremony after listening to David Tutera at the Annual Conference in Orlando for the Association of Bridal Consultants. One of the key things that caught her attention was the wedding he did by the lake. All of the guests gathered around the lake while the Bride and Groom and Officiant were on a dock in the middle of the lake saying their vows while the guests held candles around the lake and witnessed the event. David Tutera mentioned that all of his events could be scaled down to meet any Bride’s Budget or style. It just took creativity or a few key elements from his events and focus on those few elements.

Jen and Lou thank you for inspiring Tammy!

Jen purchased her dress from the Brides Against Breast Cancer Sale in Orlando in March 2008. She had looked at wedding dresses on line before the sale and fell in love with a dress that had red trim on it and a hefty price tag of $ 1,000 for her budget.  With that vision, Tammy and her set out to the sale. Jen walked in the door of the gown sale and hanging on the end rack was her dress! It was even in her size. Jen walked out with a gown, veil to match and crinolin for $ 300.00.

All said and done it turned out to be an amazing wedding and one of the “Out of the Box events” we look fondly back on and just say wow!

A big Kudos to all of the amazing vendors that took part in the dream and made it happen for Jen and Lou!
