Featured Unique Wedding Location- Florida Aquarium

If your looking for something “different and unique,” There is The Florida Aquarium! To begin, the Aquarium closes at 5:00 p.m. and can hold a ceremony or reception as early as 6:00 p.m. The events are based on a four hour block of time with the option to purchase additional time. They can hold events to end as late as midnight. They can conduct a ceremony in conjunction with a reception or just a reception alone. They do not hold ceremonies only. They do have separate dressing rooms for the bridal party, one for the bride and bridesmaids and another for the groom and groomsmen. They also conduct a full hour of rehearsal, typically the day before the event, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the assistance of their Events Coordinator. They have a beautiful ceremony area in front of our 500,000 gallon Coral Reef tank which can accommodate up to 150 guests. For the reception, they have the indoors which includes the entire inside of The Aquarium including the galleries and they also have an outdoor tropical Caribbean themed event pavilion. Inside, the cocktail hour typically takes place in the upper lobby with the guests strolling through the Wetlands and Bays and Beaches Exhibits while enjoying cocktails. The dinner then typically is located in the lower lobby where you can have the dinner and dancing portion. The Aquarium can seat 150 guests with a complete view of the dance floor or up to 300 seated both in the upper and lower lobby at banquet rounds of ten. For the outdoors, they have a large thatched roof pavilion with teakwood furniture for guests to seat, and a hand painted mahogany beach style bar. This area is ideal for a beached themed wedding but it can also be dressed up to make it a more formal area for brides that just really are set on having an outdoor reception. In the event pavilion, they can seat 150 fully seated, but have had over 250 for a wedding set up with partial seating and cocktail rounds before also.

They do have in house catering which is a must for all events to order food and beverage. Otherwise, brides may bring in any vendor they wish, including their wedding cake.

Kapok Special Event Center Wedding Reception

Laurie and John were married on November 15th, 2008 at Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, Florida. The ceremony was a Catholic Mass with close family and friends in the early afternoon. The ceremony program was designed by Special Moments in Laurie and John’s wedding colors of Sage and Chocolate with an accent paper of shiny opal. Laurie walked down the aisle with a beautiful bouquet made up of Gardenia’s and Stephanotis accented with roses and plenty of bling. She had the florist make a mini bouquet to match her bouquet that she carried with her down the aisle and stopped to hand to her mother before meeting John at the altar. After the ceremony , Laurie and John were driven to their reception at the Kapok Pavilion by Rolls Royce and were greeted by 2 Gladiators at the entrance to the reception.

After dinner the guests watched as Laurie danced with her Father and John danced with his Mother. The guests were then treated to a slideshow of the Love story of John and Laurie from childhood thru their engagements pictures. The slideshow was designed by Trinity Video and the engagement pictures were supplied by their photographer Brian Idocks. Then the party got in full swing and everyone was keeping the dance floor full. After a little while, Laurie and John cut the wedding cake and the candy bar was opened for all guests to enjoy along with a Brandy and Cognac cart that served drinks to the guests that wanted something besides the gourmet coffee bar station to go with their desserts.

Courtney and Shon’s Wedding Video Highlights

We received the highlights video from Paul-E-Media for Courtney and Shon’s wedding at the Lion’s Eye Institute in October. They had done a fall theme. Thanks to Bonnie and Paul for being there to capture the wedding for all of the family members that were not able to attend and so Courtney and Shon can be able to relieve the wedding day forever. Enjoy the highlights video below:

Tradewinds Island Grand – Kendra & Matt

Kendra and Matt were married on the beach near sunset at the Tradewinds Island Grand Resort. The 285 guests enjoyed a cocktail hour poolside with a steele drummer and watched the sunset. Everybody was then escorted to the Island Grand Ballroom where they collected their message in the Bottle place cards to find their tables, which were locations that Matt and Kendra enjoyed going and a little story by each name. After having a buffet dinner, guests dressed up with tropical props like coconut cups and grass skirts to have a polaroid taken and placed in a scrapbook along with tropical shaped cut-outs to write wishes to the Bride and Groom on and place with their picture in the book. The Bride & Groom and Guests danced the night away into the wee hours of the night. Thanks to the professional pictures from Shannon Livingston of Livingston Galleries we can all relive Matt & Kendra’s amazing wedding. Enjoy and Thanks Shannon!!!

Professional Pictures – Megan & Tudo

We want to thank Aaron Lockwood of Aaron Lockwood Photography for the fabulous pictures of Megan & Tudo’s Wedding. Megan and Tudo were married in April 2008 at Bon Appetit Restaurant on the second floor with an amazing view of the water and we truly enjoyed a beautiful sunset that evening. Megan had chosen tiffany blue and chocolate brown as her main wedding colors with accents of pink and green. The florist was Jenny from Flowers by Jenny and the video was provided by Jayson from En Fuego Video. Thanks again Aaron for the fabulous pictures below: Enjoy!

Professional Pictures are in: Courtney & Shon

We have the professional pictures back from Courtney & Shon’s Wedding on October 18th, 2008 at the Lion’s Eye Institute in Ybor City. Britt McAllister was the photographer and when he dropped off the Cd of pictures to us at the Office last week, we were completely impressed with the photos he captured from their day. We have finally narrowed down our favorites to share with you. ( That was not an easy task.) Enjoy!

Lions Eye Institute Wedding Ceremony & Reception

Courtney and Shon were married on October 18th, 2008 at the Lion’s Eye Institute in Ybor City, Florida. Courtney and Shon had decided on a Fall theme for their October wedding and presented Special Moments with the challenge of turning the meeting room at the institute into a fall wedding ceremony location for about 70 guests. We were also challenged with a limited budget and a guest count that increased to 90 adult guests plus 18 children to be in attendance, Yikes! We have included  before pictures below of  the meeting room for you to look at first.

The first challenge was the lights in the meeting room, Courtney was so focused that all she would see was the lights when she walked in there and down the aisle. We kept reassuring her that all she would see was her groom and will not notice anything else but him at the end of the aisle. ( Which by the way , was exactly what happened, she does nto even remember how the room was decorated.)We focused on enhancing the lights with a little bling and leaves to create the fall look and then created a gold fabric runner with leaves sprinkled around the edges to keep your eyes focused towards the backdrop which was covered with white silk drapes with copper accent fabric at the bottom and of course plenty of fall leaves along the floor and also as accents along the sides and tops of the backdrop. We finished the touch with candles light in the room along the windowsills in a nice frangrance of cranberries and pumpkin spice. We have included our non-professional photos below for you to see the transformation and will include the professional ones from Britt McAllister as soon as they are completed. Enjoy the ceremony pictures below:

The reception was another challenge because of the limited budget and the over the limit guest count. We decided to hire a child care service for the 18 children all under the age of 10. Faith from Fomal Event Sitters came to our rescue. Her company supplies arts and crafts along with games and entertainment for the children and even helps get them fed and takes care of all potty breaks for a reasonable price. We ordered pizza and had juice boxes for all of the children , which cut down on the cost of feeding the kids with the adults and the daycare was set-up in the ceremony room ( meeting room )right after the ceremony was completed. While the adults moved to the event center ballroom for the cocktail hour and reception. I have included a couple of photos of before the room was set-up for you to view below:

This was a empty blank slate to create a great fall theme from.

Courtney had chosen Delectable’s Fine Catering to do a stations buffet and also supplied the full premium open bar for the guests to enjoy while they danced the night away and helped themselves to a candy bar filled with all of Courtney and Shon’s favorite childhood candies into little white sacks with fall leaves on the outside to enjoy on the ride home after the late evening reception. We have included a few of the non-professional picutres that we took below for you and can hardly wait to share the professional ones with you. Enjoy the few below:

Professional Pictures – Kristin and Chris

We just featured a wedding video from Kristin and Chris’s wedding at the Sheraton Riverwalk and were talking about the photographer Phillip LLoyd . We know you are curious to see how great his work is and why we he is on our list of recommended photographers. Kristin and Chris were a great couple to work with and the pictures will say the rest enjoy! Thanks again Phillip for sending us photos to share with out having to ask!

Featured Wedding Video Spotlight- Kristin and Chris

Special Moments is proud to be able to feature wedding videos from previous weddings we have done in the past and also let you be able to see the quality of work performed by the video company. We have had several of our previous clients mention that they do not need or desire video of their wedding. On Monday morning or that evening of the wedding, the mother is usually glad she listened to us and got the video. Your wedding day goes by so quickly and you will not have a chance to experience or even see half of what your guests did. The video will be the only way to watch the wedding and reception from your guests point of view and experience what they did.

So without further delay, the first video featured here is from a Wedding in April of 2007 of Kristin and Chris. They were married at the Sheraton Riverwalk in Downtown Tampa.  The photographer was Phillip LLoyd ( Yes, I will include a post of the pictures also after the video) and the video is compliments of Trinity Wedding Video. Thanks again David!
