Photobooths at Weddings ? Yes Please!

For Wedding Professional Wednesday this week  I want to feature the coolest element you can add to your wedding and event- a PHOTOBOOTH!!

A lot of people never know what to do as favors for a wedding, because well candles and chocolates are so outdated, so what’s a better way to have your guests interact and have a take away from your wedding.

In our area, there are many  photobooth companies, but one that really stands out in my eye is Shutterbooth. Monique’s awesome customer service and her staff’s personality by far surpass anyone else’s we have ever worked with.

Not only can your guests go inside this retro chic photobooth, but they even have props to dress up with. Some of their packages even include a red carpet. How cool is that??

Now if that wasn’t enough, they can even design a custom logo for your event. The pictures are printed out within seconds, whether it be a film strip style or just a normal picture size. You can even choose color, sepia, or black and white.

So if you want to add some personality to your event, Shutterbooth is the way to go!!

Planning a First Anniversary Paper Party

The wedding may still be a fresh memory, but a first anniversary is a great occasion for a celebration that will provide even more special memories for that special couple. Unlike the wedding itself, the first-anniversary party will be a casual event and will call for inexpensive gifts.

How to Plan a First Anniversary Paper Party

  1. Step 1

Make the invitations. Choose a cute wedding snapshot and make a copy for each invitation. Center the photo on the front of the card, with the words “Has one year already gone by?” Inside, write something like the following: “Please help us celebrate Joe and Joni’s first-year anniversary. Come to a paper party at (place and time).” Provide a phone number or email address for the RSVP.

  2. Step 2

Make the invitation insert, which will read: “Please bring inexpensive paper products for your anniversary gift. Suggestions: paper towels, paper napkins, paper plates, bath tissue, facial tissue, stationery, notepads and other paper items.”

  3. Step 3

Plan the decorations. Save or collect enough full-color Sunday comics pages to tape together and make into a tablecloth. (Tape on one side and then turn over.) Buy or make paper flowers and arrange them in cardboard food containers, such as cracker or cereal boxes. Seize the occasion to use up all of your leftover paper plates, cups and napkins, so that the table is a riot of birthday, Halloween and Valentine items.

  4. Step 4

Plan the refreshments: Make or buy a variety of cupcakes and serve in their paper baking cups. Center one candle atop each frosted cupcake. To accompany the cupcakes, bring out a big bowl of fresh-cut fruit and ice cream in its paper container. Before guests eat their cupcakes, each makes a wish for the couple and blows out the candle.

  5. Step 5

Ask the couple to bring their calendar or day planner from the past year. During the refreshments, you’ll ask the couple to share one highlight from each month of the first year of their marriage.

  6. Step 6

Plan a few pencil-and-paper games. Here are two possibilities:1. Give each pair of guests a sheet of paper on which the first names of the couple are written. Each pair tries to come up with the most common words that can be made from the letters in the couple’s names.2. Give each of the guests each a sheet of paper on which to privately print the month he was born, as well as several activities typical of that month. Then, going through the calendar month by month, ask each guest to silently act out one of the activities she jotted down, and have others guess what she is pantomiming. Note: guests with the same birth month may choose to act as a team.

50th Anniversary Party with a Twist

We have a few “Out of the Box” events that Special Moments helped with in the beginning of July. This is the first one we will be talking about. We were referred this event from our friends over at Orange Blossom Catering. Bruce was the host of this event. His parents were celebrating their 50th Anniversary in August and Bruce had the pleasure of Uniting with his Partner David in the UK on July 1st in a private Commitment Ceremony. So the theme of the party was:

“50 years of Bond(age) and a new Bond”

Bruce came up with the theme due to his experience in planning events in Hong Kong and his love for James Bond…. So the dual party became a James Bond Themed Event. We started with the concept of using the retro glam approach. This is what I call fondly Old School Style…..We decided to use the Black and Gold which is traditional for a 50th Anniversary, but added some caricature style of each of the guests of honor to the event.

The menu/food was designed around our party theme. We choose food stations and the menu was “Food around the World” Bond Style. We different themed stations such as: Pad Thai and Asian Stir fry station that the guests were served in take-out boxes with chopsticks, The Italian station which consisted of a Make your own antipasta bar on bamboo plates with breadsticks and salad,The English Station which consisted of carved turkey and beef with cranberry sauce , yorkshire pudding, brussel sprouts and mini stuffed baked potatoes.

As the guests arrived off the elevator on the 28th floor of the Bayfront Towers they were greeted by James Bond music playing in the background and a banner that told you need secret agent credentials to pass that point. They entered the hallway and were greeted to martini’s( shaken not stirred) and glasses of wine. They signed in the original guest book from Larry and Renee’s wedding 50 years earlier and looked at wedding photos from that day also along with cut-outs of their original wedding photo on display. The room was decorated with Life size banners of the original invitation for photo ops and then the polaroids of the guests were placed in commemorative Keepsake frames that they took home with them at the end of the evening. We designed the room in black linens with Gold table candleabra’s accented with red roses. On the Cocktail tables we used small gold vases with red roses in the top for accent color.

After the guests were finished with the food stations, the program began for tonight’s entertainment. We had the “Shaken not stirred” dancers and there performance along with slideshows of  pictures over the years to an ad lib interactive audience participation that resulted in a story about Bruce and David where the guests had filled in the blanks to create a hilarious laugh for everyone. After the cakes were cut. Which we had a traditional anniversary cake for Larry and Renee to a Aston Martin Cake for Bruce and David. The dance floor opened up and the guests danced to we are family and a few select songs before calling it a night.

16th Birthday Party

We had the pleasure of being part of Brian’s 16th Birthday Party on June 26th, 2009.We know the first thing that popped into your head was a Sweet 16, for a boy??  They deserve to have awesome parties too. Brian’s party theme was Mardi Gras, so we brought in tons of golds, greens, and purples. And a easy to fix to having specialty lighting on a limited budget, is if there is any track lighting, buy colored light bulbs and bam! Instant up lighting! Another aspect of the party that both Brian and his mother were  adamant on was having a photobooth. After it got dark enough we had the Dj throwing out glow sticks and glow necklaces, to make for very cool pictures and to make it feel more like a club, which is what Brian wanted. Overall the party was a complete success, and without one aspect or another it wouldn’t have been the same.

A Juice Sensation

If your event takes place during the week, in the afternoon, or needs to be non-alcoholic, consider featuring a juice bar.  A table piled high with assorted fruits vegetables and special add-ons will provide your guests with their own personal Jamba Juice.  Most caterers are able to accomodate a juice bar with a few weeks’ notice and you can offer anything from a traditional fresh-squeezed orange juice to a protein and wheatgrass-infused blackberry banana smoothie.

A New Twist on Centerpieces for Casual Affairs

Save your guests time and save yourself some money! Instead of having flower centerpieces on each table, have a bucket filled with ice and bottles of beer, water, wine or soft drinks set on a small pedestal in the middle of the table. Waiters will keep an eye on the bucket throughout the meal and the evening and replenish them when needed. It’ll save your guests the trouble of going back and forth to the bar and you won’t need to spend money on expensive flower centerpieces! A few suggestions for gorgeous decorative buckets are from the MacBeth Collection - first you choose the style of bucket you’d like and then choose from tons of different fresh design choices.

Brides Against Breast Cancer Tampa VIP Night

Last Night was the Vip Night for Brides Against Breast Cancer. This was the first time doing that along with the regular sale. As the attendees ( brides plus guests)arrived to the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel they walked the pink carpet( supplied by Grand Events) to registration table to check-in. There they had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $1.00. We were drawing during the event for a Free Wedding Dress ( valued up to $ 350.00 or they could use the discount off of a higher priced dress) and also a 4 day 3 night trip to Coconut Bay Resort ( all inclusive) in St. Lucia.

They were also treated to a free bridal publication from The Perfect Wedding Guide. As the guests left the Vip night , they were also given a goody bag supplied by Get Married with some goodies inside from various vendors.

After checking in, they were treated to glasses of wine & pink champagne along with a Mashed Potato Bar, fruit and cheese display, bacon wrapped scallops & and a Cappuccino and Expresso Bar….( Cafe A La Carte ) During the “cocktail hour ” they were also able to bid on Silent Auction items like hotel stays, wedding cakes & Flowers , plus a signed Martha Stewart Book.

One of the new additions to our gown sale this year was the Groom’s Lounge. The entire lounge set-up was supplied by Grand Events. Big thank to Grand Events, there lounge was a great success in the groom’s eyes and also for the kids in attendance.

After the cocktail hour the brides were let into the Ballroom to the main area and were greeted by ABC Members that were there to volunteer. The Brides were then treated to a suprise. Holly from Studio 10 was there to greet the guests and we had a very Special Guest with her… Cassiday…

Cassiday is sufferering with Breast Cancer and had asked the Making Memories Foundation for a wedding dress for her and a dress for her daughter. The Man that stood by her during this breast cancer treatment process has asked Cassiday to marry him. Cassiday arrived by Rolls Royce ( supplied by Ambassador Limousine) with her daughter and Fiance to the sale thinking she was picking out a dress. We suprised her with the help of fellow ABC ( Association of Bridal Consultants)Members a complete wedding including location for her. When Holly started reading off the different vendors and they came up and presented her with certificates for the wedding on March 30th, 2009 . Tears we filled in her eyes and her groom to be was speechless.

After the “Wish ” for Cassiday… Holly drew the tickets for the free dress and also for the trip and the Brides eagerly were anticpating being allowed to shop for the dress of their dreams nefore the public the next day. Once, Holly asked the volunteers to let go of the chain , the brides hurriedly grabbed dresses and were off to the fitting room …

It was an amazing night and we raised $ 14,000 on the VIP night … We are so excited for next years sale and can hardly wait! Will keep you updated on the date for next year and also the location!
